Topic:
Don't Let Your Clients Leave Trusts Behind in High-Tax States

Your client moved into Florida’s rewarding tax structure from a high-tax state. They retired, sold their former home and otherwise disassociated from the former state. With this move, they probably think they left the former state’s income tax behind, but not necessarily so,  If they established a trust as a grantor when they lived in another state, or their trustees or beneficiaries reside in another state, the trust may be pulled into that state and taxed as a resident trust. Fortunately, there are strategies to circumvent state rules and minimize the tax burden on your client’s trust and heirs. This presentation will outline the strategies you can use to help ensure no out-of-state tax obligations keep your clients from maximizing wealth transfer to their heirs.
